Default Fresh Red & Yellow Dates

I bought some fresh red & yellow dates today, I couldn't resist, they looked
so neat because they are still on the branch/stick thingy that they grow on.

But.
I ate one of each and they're not nice to eat straight. In fact, they make
your mouth pucker! bleh. I *love* medjool (sp?) dates but these are dates
of a different colour (so to speak) and I don't know what to do with them.
Ideas anyone? If I can't figure out what to do with them I'm going to have
to chuck them out, they're inedible as they are.
Help!

I suspect they're not quite ripe, much like an unripe persimmon.

The following page addresses fresh dates, ripeness, uses, etc.
