I just bought a Krups grinder that I intend on using for spices. I was
wondering what uses have you found for your grinder and if anyone has any tips to share. Thanks! peace, Barbara |

I buy as many spices as I can in who form, so I frequently use the grinder. I've not used it for anything else, however. Whole cloves, allspice berries, broken cinnamon sticks, blades of mace, and all kinds of peppercorns can be reduced to as fine a powder as you want. I also find it great for making spice blends like chili powder and curry powder. It makes fine work of dried peppers if broken in smaller pieces first. I would hesitate to grind whole nutmegs in it, however, since they are so large and so hard. I have a nutmeg grinder for those. Do remember to not put anything moist in it. Those grinders aren't meant for moisture and will get gummy. Wayne |

I use a Braun coffee grinder for spices. (I have a separate one for coffee.) Best tip I have heard is to use rice (uncooked) in between different spices to sort of clean it out. I just put in a T or so, whizz it around until it powders, and then dump it out. -j. |

Always wipe it out with a *dry* cloth/towel. Never let the rotor or blade get wet (and don't try grinding any fresh herbs). Other than grinding spices, theres pactically no other uses. Hmm, *good enough for you*... is that how your momma raised you... low self esteem runs in your family, eh. >I am not sure what I will use it for besides maybe cinnamon sticks Waste of cinnamon sticks, sticks cost more than ground cinnamon.... and you can buy broken cinnamon bark even cheaper. >nuts Nutz is too oily, will clog up da woiks. >and peppercorns. Total waste of poifectly good peppercorns... get a peppermill... btw, peppermills are in fact grinders, grind is what mills do. >I am looking for good suggestions like the one Duh'Wayne gave >about the dried peppers and the other suggestion that was given about >cleaning by grinding rice through it. If you are going to tell me its not a grinder I am sure it will serve its purpose for me ;-) I am not sure what I will use it for besides maybe cinnamon sticks , nuts , and peppercorns. I am looking for good suggestions like the one Wayne gave about the dried peppers and the other suggestion that was given about cleaning by grinding rice through it. peace, Barbara |

It chops, much as a food processor chops, but on a tiny scale. To me and almost everyone I know, it's still a "grinder". Oh, one word... If you're going to chop some nuts in it, be sure and check it frequently or you'll end up with nut butter. Please don't ask me know I know this! <G> Wayne |

So you admit you're an idiot, as is everyone you associate with, which is no surprise, Duh'Wayne. ---= BOYCOTT FRENCH--GERMAN (belgium) =--- ---= Move UNITED NATIONS To Paris =--- Sheldon ```````````` "Life would be devoid of all meaning were it without tribulation." |

I can assure you that June Oshiro is far more likely to have rice than white bread. A Tbls kosher salt will clean those whizzers too... then use the salt in the dish you're cooking... the spicy powdered rice is kinda useless, unless you have a sweaty crotch. ---= BOYCOTT FRENCH--GERMAN (belgium) =--- ---= Move UNITED NATIONS To Paris =--- Sheldon ```````````` "Life would be devoid of all meaning were it without tribulation." |

Use it for anything that is sold in the whole form as well as powdered. Cumin and coriander (mexican and indian cooking) are much more potent when roasted lightly and then ground immediately. I use mine to grind my cloves (excess goes in the freezer) cardomon, dried chilis, celery seed, etc. Shirley Hicks Toronto, Ontario |

In powder form chipotle (which has a nice smoky flavor) is nice sprinkled in many things you would use chili powder for, or on potato wedges. (but only use a little bit, its strong!) Roasting then grinding cumin seeds. Garam masala. |
