I'm sure Ruth won't mind shelling out the money. The article says that the
device can turn an average cook into a fantastic cook, so maybe it can make
an average cook out of Peter!

That AUS$1939 equates to much less in U.S. currency. You probably spend that
much on electricity in a month or two.

You're right, it is only $1664 US. I'm going to put a 220V line in the
kitchen and order mine today.

It's more than a blender. Seems like the perfect Manhattan
apartment appliance.

If it's as good as it says it is, it's money well spent.

We have them here called "Bimby" but Spain is where they are really loved.
You have to allow people to come and demo them to buy them!

They are also running 'classes' where anyone can go along and watch a demo
that lasts a couple of hours.

Should be interesting.

LOL, the famigerated Bimby... in the italian cooking NG there has been more
than one discussion, and many flames, over that product. If it's the same
sold here, it's a solid thing that does its job without errors, well built,
and looks like some famous chefs use it for sauces, like bechamel or
catalana custard. And it's about 900 or 1000 euros...

One more clunky appliance to either take up good work space or get
relegated to the gadget graveyard cupboard. Use it a few times and
then .........? If you've lived without it this far, then you prob.
don't need it.

Well, it says it takes the jobs of about 10 appliances, so the money
spent on replacing all them would probably add up to the overall cost.

And it washes itself, like my benchtop convection oven does :-)

* All Grains eg. wheat, barley, buckwheat, oats, rice
* Coffee Beans
* Chocolate
* Parmesan & other hard cheeses
* Sugar into icing sugar
* All Seeds eg. linseed, sesame, poppy, sunflower (make LSA)
* All Nuts eg. almond, walnuts, hazelnuts (make Dukkah)
* All Spices eg. peppercorns, cinnamon, lemon zest, nutmeg, vanilla
(make Garam Masala)
* Breadcrumbs

Kneads

* All Breads, Pizza, Foccacia and Brioche
* Pasta Dough
* Pastries including Choux

Minces

* Ptés, Dips, Pesto & Tapenades
* Salads
* Dressings including Mayonnaise
* Ice creams, Sorbets & Desserts
* Cakes & Pavlovas
* Jams, Marmalade, Preserves & Spreads (eg. peanut butter, hazelnut)

I've watched enough HGTV international shows to know some kitchens in
other countries would make a Manhattan apartment look spacious.

I was very suprised by what it can do, and the mere fact that quite a *lot*
of very well known chefs here in Oz have more than one of the machines in
their kitchens.

The thing that got me going was the demo on making your own butter as you
need some from cream, and then using the leftover buttermilk to make
scones, or bread!!

If you do a search for Thermomix on YouTube, it'll come up with many
cooking demos showing what the thing does.

Snipped the big list.

Jack of all trades, master of none?
A machine that does many jobs quite possibly does very few of them
well.

You can buy a Vitamix for half that and it freezes stuff too.
