Back to School Breakfast?

Last of the chicken taquitos and guacamole and a tall glass of lemonade.

Have just begun to see "back to school" ads. Took me by surprise. I want a
new BBQ Brisket Backpack.

You?

School? Are you crazy? I had a tomato sandwich. Got to take
advantage of the season, you know. This one was with Swiss
cheese, on sour dough bread. Helllman's mayo, of course. Not as
good as a BLT, but I can't eat bacon every day.

Jean B.,

A commendable display of willpower.

I forgot all about the New Jersey "Fresh" tomatoes. Thanks for reminding me!
I'll have to get a bunch. I eat them like apples. :9

Our schools started back today. I went grocery shopping this morning
and there wasn't a kid in sight. :-) I like children, but shopping is
easier when random kidlets are not zooming around the store.

Sheesh! Kids around here don't start back until 08/18. Teachers start in
services on the 13th. DW is at her classroom now, getting ready for the
start. We've still got noisy little rug rats running around all the
stores with no parent worrying about them.

Good grief! First I've ever heard of school beginning in August. Iirc, we
began school on the first Monday in September.

School in August sounds like a terrible idea, imho.

Arri,

Same for me.

Moreso to my uncle. He taught junior high school music classes.

I don't mind kids in the store so much as those gawd-awful huge plastic
shopping carts designed to look like cars or firetrucks. They take up half
the aisle!

Especially when they're zooming around on those damned shoes with wheels
embedded in the bottom. One of them rammed into me a couple of months ago
and nearly knocked me down, in fact, knocked me into a shelving unit and a
lot products fell to the floor. When its mother caught up with it, I gave
her my attorney's card with the expectation she would hear from him. An
empty threat, of course, but maybe the thought of it will stimulate some
discipline.

One of small local supermarket chains has adult only shopping after 9:00
p.m.

I still have an occasional nightmare about walking to a college final
exam without knowing where it is scheduled and without having done any
of the work or reading in the course. That never happened in real
life, but a couple of times I came close....

OB food: Every time the cafeteria served corn at dinner we knew there'd
be corn pancakes for breakfast the next morning. :-P (Actually they
weren't all that bad.)

And not being able to remember what course you actually enrolled
in? :0

Actuallly I knew someone at university who enrolled in a intro French
literature course (year long) made the first two or three classed and
the final exam. He said he didn't recognize anyone at the exam but it
wasn't until afterwards that he realised he had written the wrong
exam. I believe he did well on it though

Arri,

In 10th grade high school Physics 101, teach showed us (using a car
battery) why we shouldn't contact electric poles between +/- poles. Pretty
dramatic display. He lived, dammit!

Honestly, he was a great teacher! I remembered the lesson, if that makes
any difference.

Best,

Andy

Last year was walking down a street I hadn't traversed before. There
were two schools next to each other. The time was around 8:30 AM. Those
two school buzzers rang and I jumped! Some reflexes just never die.

OB food: Many of our school meals were mystery meat, unidentifable
'vegetables' and potatoes. Wasn't much better at university actually
LOL.

That's always the telling point. My school science teachers often took
life in hand to make a decent demo. Nowadays that sort of thing isn't
allowed, which makes it a bit more boring for student and teacher alike.

Arri,

By 12th grade, I was the only student who enrolled in Physics class. It was
actually a pretty dismal curriculum like you alluded to. Even the teacher
suffered ennui!

LOL. REally hated secondary school physics. Didn't have a regular
science teacher for physics and the replacement teacher was useless.
That hatred carried over into university physics; it wasn't my best
subject
