Andy - I'll dignify that for you since you are not being very smart
tonight/today. But I respect you for the most part.

1983 is when I started accessing the internet on a regular basis.

I was instant messaging on an APL 360 computer in 1969.

Good for you Andy. Not to swing things around here, but I can probably
match you tit for tat on the history stuff.

That isn't where I wanted to go. I am able to be your friend however.

Would you be interested in that?

Chatty - (and I hope you don't take offense to that), You are much more
timely than you know since I never went to bed.

I may have either a bowl of cereal from Post (raisin brand), or maybe an
English muffin with strawberry preserves. In either case, I will think
nice thoughts of you. I know the Chatty is a bit shallow for a name, but
I have always thought of you with that name. I hope that doesn't offend.

<g> Chatty is fine by me (and rather appropriate, IMNSHO).

I'm not a cereal person - gimme bacon and eggs any day - but my DH and
my daughter like cereals tho' - usually something called 'Weetbix' or
cornflakes with fresh chunks of fruit added to it.

It's likely you would have liked the obrian stuff I made a couple of
days ago. Par boiled some large dice potatoes. and while they were
bubbling, I fried some dices onions and green peppers. Added the
strained taters, and when all were happily browning, on thew last flip,
I added two eggs, and covered for about 3 minutes. Eggs perfectly set,
but yolks just hot. BTW, all was cooked in bacon grease as I keep a jar
in the fridge for just these moments.

It was strictly heaven, and I would have been happy to share with you
since I think you would have liked :-)

Isn't that a cool thing about cooking? Sharing happy stuff with others
that appreciate it.

I would indeed. Another thing I like (which I had yesterday) was this:
I fried up some diced onions and some bits of bacon - then added some
mushrooms... yum. I then fried a couple of eggs and had that for
brunch. Delish!

In 1958, I talked to my friend next door using nothing more than two tin
cans and a string.

I was 8 years old and would have fit in this discussion just fine.

Chatty Cathy was a real doll.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatty_Cathy

It made sense that Cathy put "chatty" in front of her name because
she's the one who put up the rfc chat room information and she posted
quite often here in the beginning. Who knows? Maybe she *is* the
chatty type in person too.

You don't need a pressure canner for jams, jellies, canned fruits,
pickles. You need a large kettle for processing the jars in boiling
water. And you need appropriate jars for canning--I've no idea of their
availability to you.

AFA pectin goes, I'm willing to send you a couple boxes for a trial run.
You know how to contact me.

I absolutely agree! And that's how I've been eating the extra that
wouldn't fill a jar. About four pieces of whole grain toast yesterday
with a schmear of butter and a gob of raspberry jam. Be still, my heart.

Tomorrow's leftovers will be "It's The Berries" jam -- blues, reds,
blacks, and cherries. Tasty.

My *supermarket* carries some cheap stockpots -- maybe $15 -- perfect
for waterbaths and making soup. I wouldn't want to try to brown
anything in it, though ‹ too thin and burning would be unavoidable,
AFAIC. My Farberware is a gem that I picked up for $20 at Kohl's a few
years ago. IT can be used for more than waterbathing; it has a decent
bottom on it.

heh. I thought it had to be an edu network. However, I'm still
surprised you were able to do that in '69. Computers were still
programmed by punch cards in those days and I thought the only
legitimate internet communication (besides the military) was between
college students on projects. The rest of us used bulletin boards.
Well, not me. I didn't have a computer in '69. Computers had
mainframes (that measured in feet) in their own air conditioned rooms.
Us peons worked at monitors.

PCs weren't even on the radar screen until the late '70s and didn't
take off until IBM released whatever it put into the public domain in
the '80s.

I love cooking with wine.
Sometimes I even put it in the food.
