Default The problem with cooking shows

I notice all cooking shows suffer for the following three ailments:

- Recipes dominated with unhealthy ingredients like butter, cream,
lard etc.
- Recipes require exotic ingredients and spices. These are things that
require you to buy a whole jar of but you only need a sprinkle of in
the recipe.
- Recipe has many time-consuming and laborious steps.

Maybe I am unique but when I cook want to use healthy and readily
available ingredients. I also want to make things fast, don't want to
spend hours cooking one meal. Are there any good websites that cater
to my style of cooking?

Butter and cream are healthy ingredients, in moderation. I don't recall
buying a whole jar of something that needs only a sprinkle, but some herbs
and spices are used far more than others.

You'd probably be better looking in a health and fitness area than a cooking
newsgroup. Most of us here don't mind putting prep time into a good meal
and we use real butter to boot.

Look for links from a Vita-Mix or nutrition supplement web site Try

I think you'll like everydaydish.tv -- many many of the recipes come
with videos. I have so far made the following recipes with great success:

Do you like Chinese food? You'll find little butter or cream in it
and any lard can be substituted. (Not that I agree that butter and
cream are unhealthy.) A great many Chinese stir fries can be made in
the time it takes for the rice to cook, and the braises that take
longer usually require little time-consuming prep, just longer to
cook. Rather than a website I'd recommend a book or two. You might
look at books by Grace Young and Fuchsia Dunlop. Another that comes
to mind if you have a used book source would be Jeff Smith's "Our
Immigrant Ancestors" (or something close to that), which as I recall
has many recipes that would satisfy your requirements. -aem

The problem with cooking shows is that they make me hungry!

I WANT to see something more complicated being made. Otherwise, it
wouldn't be as interesting to me.

And you'll find there are "healthier" shows on, too, if you look.
Ellie Krieger's show on Food Network is about that, for example.
"Everyday Food" on PBS may satisfy you, also - easier preparations.

Just my two cents,
Kris
