Started mung beans Early Sunday morning.
1/2 cup well rinsed.

The jar is now tightly packed and they are not quite done yet! I removed
a 1" layer and mixed them in with the veggie and rice dish in the
'frige. They are ok but not quite ready.

Note to self: 1/2 cup mung beans in a quart jar is FAR too many. <g>

Next time I'll try a couple of tablespoons, but I want to try sprouting
lentils next.

Now I just need to find a local source for raw sunflower seeds.

Many years ago, we grew bean sprouts on paper towels that lined a
perforated plastic tray. I do not remember much about it, though.

Mom actually had a plastic sprouter thingie.

This is simple enough and working fine tho'. I'll take pics when they
are done.

I'm looking forward to trying lentil sprouts. I've never had them.

This plastic screen sprouter lid is years old. I want to get new jar
going every 3 days or so, so I'm going to have to improvise. I have
some aluminum screen out in the shed that I can cut rounds from and add
to a simple canning ring (widemouth of course!).

Does Alpha Bits creal still give away little terrariums as the
prizze int he cereal boxes?

Those and the baking soda powered submarines were the best cereal
box prizes of all time. Well, aside from the acid-laced tattoos in
Cracker Jacks.

Seems like you can buy sunflower seeds for feeding to birds and small
pets.

Oy ! Duh, I did not think of that. :-)
Yes, by large bags at the grocery store.

I appreciate that idea and have no idea why the obvious sometimes
escapes me.

Thanks!

Most of them are the black oil seeds tho', not the large striped ones.
I've rarely seen those outside of a mix.

My cockatoo would be grateful for the largesse.
