Default Penang food

Well, it's been fun......... no western food for the whole time we're
here. Although, western food is now the "in thing" here in Penang, and
indeed in Malaysia as a whole.

This morning walking near Chowstrar markets, there was a makan stall
on the side of the road making (of all things) hamburgers!!

We gave it a swerve and hit a little Indian makan place instead for
some chicken curry and chicken fried rice for breakfast.

A nice way to start the day.

Now just killing time in an air-con internet joint till our transport
gets here in about 30mins.

Off to a hawker stall up near Batu Ferringhi tonight for dinner. We'll
be glad to get home for a rest!!

I hope you kept a journal of all of your glorious food
experiences, and that we'll hear more about them here after you
get home.

We've tried :-)

The main thing is that it's all cheap as chips.

Just had some chicken rice for breakfast. It's white rice cooked in a
very nicely flavoured broth (which varies from stall to stall) served
with either roasted or boiled sliced chicken breast (very moist!!)
with a sauce over, some bean sprouts that have been blanched in a
chicken broth, and a small bowl of said broth. That's breakfast. And
at RM9.40 for the two of us, it's great!! We're getting 2.5 to the
Aussie $ at the moment, so 9.40 works out to about AUD$3.76 for
breakfast.

We went to a *huge* hawker food place last night for dinner and tried
several dishes, one of which was a BBQ'd stingray. Satays for
starters, 3 mains, with several fresh orange juices and 4 beers set us
back about AUD$20.

We're off to Penang airport shortly to head back to KL, where we'll
spend the next few days, and then head off down to Singapore again for
a couple of days.
