I don't think it's too impractical - even in the short run. Generally,
folks 'round here spend a huge part of their day in the kitchen, so why
not make it 'the best room in the house'?

I know what you mean. Lived in a few places like that over the years.
Kinda like build a new house around your 'dream kitchen'?
