Funny! My cat left us a gift yesterday morning on the front step- a
nice juicy rat! My 11 year old says, "Look mom, a mouse!" No son, I'm
afraid not! It's the third one in as many months...Guess I'm glad he's
getting them, but not a nice sight first thing in the morning!

I always knew my fear of cats was justified!!!

In all actuality, cats love me, for some reason or other.

My Sophie did that sitting on the laptop with the "screw the computer,
pet me" look on day 1. I knew I was doomed...

Pretty much all cats seem to love me too, even a stray cat in a market
in Cairo. Cats rule and they know it.

merryb,

No, I'm really good around cats! I often fed my neighbor's cats. About six
of them. There was a spiral "staircase" from floor to ceiling in her living
room and they all had a "level" (based on some arranged hierarchy) to lay
on. I always had "the fear" walking past them as they quietly watched my
every step. They didn't attack since I opened that cans of cat food, I
think!?

Best,

Andy

The higher, the better, they seem to think. I think it gives them a
feeling of superiority to look down on us! LOL!

merryb,

I think newer arrivals got bottom steps. "Angel" a stunning white cat got
top honors.

There was a common door between the two "twin" sides of the house and the
cats would tease my Annabelle (Jack Russell Terrier) sticking there paws
through the clearance under the door. Drove her nuts until once, the door
swung open and all the cats fur went straight up and hissing, Annabelle ran
and hid! She was SO brave with the door closed! LOLOL!!!

All bark & no bite! Sounds like our Springer Spaniel we had when I was
a kid- Cisco. Our neighbors had a dog also, and they would run up and
down the fence line acting tough to each other. Somehow, their dog got
in our yard, and poor Cisco looked like we was going to faint! Good
times! LOL!

Back in late Sept. I posted a pic on RFC holding an actual month old
lion cub, also in (or near) Cairo.

My dog Millie (stray - probably Rotty/Shepherd) tolerated the cats - barely.
One day, I was working at the computer and she was sleeping near me. She
started whining and crying. I looked over and a very small kitten had
crawled on top of her and settled down to nap. Millie never hurt it - but
wanted it to go away. Alas Millie is gone now - and I have only one cat - a
stray that took months to tame and get in the house.

We'll see how it goes for my son. He's going to participate in
"socializing" two mountain lion cubs. One lost a foot and the other a
leg. They are also too young to leave their mother and survive. So,
there's no way they can go back in the wild. So, they are going to be
educational animals, but need to get used to humans.

Maybe they are chasing pinecones in doggie heaven? That was another
one of his traits, which would drive you nuts living here in WA- he'd
drop them hoping you'd throw them for him- if you didn't do it in time
for him, he'd rip it up and bring yo another, and another, etc.....

Just be glad you aren't my neighbor. Her cat left her a liver and
some other prime parts of whatever it was it killed. Neighbor stepped
out the front door bare footed to retrieve her newspaper (didn't have
her glasses on) and stepped on the "gift". YUCK!

Our cats don't go out, but several of them tend to fill our bed with toys
while we're sleeping.

I had to laugh at the one which says cats paw at your face while you're
asleep. One of our cats has licked my eyelid while I was sleeping, and he
once tried to stick his paw into my mouth while I was asleep.

Mine routinely taps me on my nose in the early morning. It means "wake up
and feed me"

Nonsense. They simply can sense fear.

Yep, same here.
And the longer I resist, the more frequent/intense the taps become!
Then, its time to be let outside.

Then there's dinner at exactly 5PM, God forbid I am so much as a minute
late...

/Then/ theres her serving of whatever I'm having...

I dog-sat a friend's female border collie for a few days. She slept up
on the bed with the rest of the gang, which was fine, but when she felt
it was time to get up she would stand over me, with her nose a fraction
of an inch from my face, staring intently.

If I could lay perfectly still, without moving or blinking or laughing,
in spite of the two warm, moist jets of dog breath on my face,
eventually she would lay back down and leave me alone. But if I so much
as twitched, she'd go all Lickasaurus Rex on me, and the game would be up.

She was a good girl, but I can't say I was sorry to see her go home.

Dunno about your cats, but when my three dogs dogs pile into the
bathroom they're waiting for the porcelain water dish to be emptied and
then re-filled with fresh, clean cold water.

"Argh, get out! Out, out out! You HAVE a water bowl! Go use it!"

"But you only change the water once a day."

They're jealous and wish they could do that.

My sister has six dogs, all greyhounds and all rescue. They didn't
always learn things. One dog is female but doesn't understand it. She
lifts her leg when peeing. Another dog is male but doesn't understand.
He *doesn't* lift his leg. Now I understand why male dogs lift their
leg. This dog usually pees on his front foot. He seems oblivious to it.

I once accidently pushed a cat out of a second-story
window. I had just obtained two adult cats, and I wanted
to keep them indoors for a while so that they would
learn this was their new home.

The bathroom window was open, and I reached through the
curtains to grab the knob to close it, not realzing one
of the cats was sitting on the window sill behind the
curtain.

Uh oh! Big mistake! Pushed the cat off the window sill!
Now, how do I get the cat back?

I called to her, and she was hanging around the house,
but she wouldn't let me get near her. Finally, I got
the idea of calling her while holding her sister.
That got her to come closer, and I was able to lead
her into the house.

When I got her far enough in the house and in the right
position where I could make a dash for the front door
and close it, I did it! Hooray!

Immediately, she realized she'd been tricked, and she
leapt into the air and slashed out at the window shade
over the door. For years after that, the window shade
had a large slash about four feet above the floor, until
I finally replaced it.

Of our five cats, PeeWee is the emissary who is sent at precisely 7:55
every evening to remind me it’s time for their dinner and is quite vocal
about it. When I get to the kitchen to fill their dishes, the other four
are waiting in place.

They are so adapted to that time that on the occasions when I feed them
early, they will readily eat, but are not reprogrammed to ever request it
earlier than 7:55.

Each morning when I get up and go immediately to my home office, 4 of the 5
who enjoy treats immediately show up looking at me pleadingly for their
treat. The same happens the moment I arrive home from work. The fifth
one, who doesn’t like treats, watches from afar. When offered treats, she
always refuses them.

Our cat Houdini used to run into the bathroom to watch the water go
down the drain. I remarked that I hoped he never learned to flush the
toilet.
