Apparently Obama nixed the idea of a big fireworks display at the end of his Grant Park speech, didn't want to seem too gloating or euphoric. A smart move... When I watched him I noticed that his hair was graying a bit, I thought, "Man, in a few years you'll be *totally* gray, you have the hardest job in the world"... [...] > Happy election day babe! It was a lovely sunny 70+ degree day, everyone was in a good mood. Except for the bartender at my local watering hole who is a Republican. I said, "Hey, why be mad, it is what it is.". Getting worked up about electoral politics any more is a fairly useless exercise, I've better things to do...don't be going being all bitter, it's easy enuf to get a sour face. I was happy for all the Obama supporters, many of them black. It was their "day", you can't begrudge them that... -- Best Greg |

Perhaps my statement was a little flip. Maybe the server upped his tips for customers who were *** and/or supported Obama. I have just discovered that Obama is family and it is strange to think that I may be related to the first American black president of the US. My (late) brother in law's ex-wife called the other day to tell me that Obama's mother's maiden name was Dunham, which is my mother is law's maiden name. Someone had researched and published a genealogical study that traces the Dunham family roots back to the Massachusetts colony in the 1630. Part of the family were Loyalists during the revolution and moved to Canada, and some moved back. Somewhere along the line, Obama's family moved west. Never the less Obama and my wife share a common ancestor 10 generations ago. What's more interesting is that this common relative was a bit of a radical and changed his name to Dunham. I could not find his name on ay of the ships passenger lists in that time period, but it seems that there is another guy who used the same Dunham alias, and he was on the Mayflower and was one of the signers of the Mayflower Covenant. So my votes is for Obama. |
