If we are not meant to eat animals,
why are they made of meat?

It also unlikely to be ambergris, it is not usually found in such
large amounts.

Ambergris is also not whale vomit, it forms in the intestines from
undigestible material and is usually released from the rectum when the
whale dies. Perume industry used to use it as a scent fixative.

100% Correct the most important thing about ambergris is its a natural
"fixative" and allows the fragrance to change with each user depending on
their individual body chemistry.

Chemical fixatives on the other hand create a stable product that smells the
same on everyone.

I don't know the prices today but it used to be more valuable than gold.

Since it was in container shape, it was not ambergris,
plus a bunch of other reasons. Like the unpleasant odor.

The speculation of it being lard corresponds to the
description, especially it being somewhat rotten.
It may be an unrefined crude fat, either made from
rotten carcasses or which developed off-odors in
storage or transport. It may be an intermediate
product destined for refinement and purification.
It may have been intended for non-food purposes,
such as soap, shampoo, or laundry detergent.
