Does anyone know the difference between a "rice cooker 1 cup measure" and
a regular 1 cup measure. I've lost my rice cooker cup and most recipes stipulate using the rice cooker measure......TIA...Sharon |

What makes you think they would be different from a regular cup? I don't suppose it would help to tell you that a cup of rice holds about 7200 grains of rice....<;-) -aem |

The rice cooker I once had included a special measuring cup which in no way equalled a standard measuring cup. It was a melamine type cup with no markings, and I never bothered to check exactly how much difference there was in volume. -- Wayne Boatwright ------------------------------------------- Tuesday, 04(IV)/22(XXII)/08(MMVIII) ------------------------------------------- Today is: Earth Day Countdown till Memorial Day 4wks 5dys 10hrs ------------------------------------------- 'Aw, you can see the strings.' -- Crow T. Dunno about biig, but I got my first one sometime around 1983, replaced it with a better quality unit sometime around 1986. Eventually the cord (a non-replaceable type) went bad on the better unit so it too was replaced. I think that was just before the current one? |

Have you played that no frills vocabulary game at <freerice.com>? Lots of fun and challenging. I wondered what measure of free rice I had "won" and now I know I need to aim for 7200 grains. BTW *On Topic* for the OP, we in Hawaii use equal parts water to equal parts dry rice in our rice cookers. Works just fine. with aloha, beans roast beans to kona to email farmers of Pure Kona |

Bob lost his measuring cup sometime back, but had the forethought to figure out how much was in each measure before it disappeared. I use my Tupperware shaker and measure to the 14 oz. line for 2 cups of rice. Works great. --Lin (we still have the paddles though!) |

Many rice makers come with a cup and if you use it, you can then use the little water scale on the inside. Lost the cup? 1 cup dry, 2 cups water. Same ratio over and over no matter how much you double or reduce. I might add, thats for asian mediam grain 'sticky'. You may want to reduce the waer slightly if you like american 'separatist' rice <g>. |

BTW reading a very nice (library) book on rice cookers: 'The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook' by Beth Hensperger and Julie Kaufmann (The Harvard Common Press; 2002) Usually any book with 'ultimate' or 'complete' isn't really, but this one's not bad. Talks about rice cookers (and how they work) without any brand preferences, discusses types of rice and other grains and of course has a lot of recipes for cooking rice (and other grains) in it. Even an interesting technique for sauteeing rice etc in the rice cooker for pilafs. |
