Default Pyrex "Bake A Round"

Ferrante's experience with the Pasta Express prompts me to ask about
the Pyrex "Bake A Round" device. I saw one new at a thrift shop the
other day and though it might work - if you don't mind not having a
crispy crust.

The only problem I foresee is not being able to get the bread out of
the tube.

Apparently they have some use in home cannabis cultivation, which is
probably where most of these are being used right now.

Anybody ever use one for bread?

I've had one since the 70's (for baking bread). I don't get it out much
any more, because I forget about it. Now that you've reminded me I will.
I've never had a problem getting the bread out. It slides right out. So,
what do they do for cannabis? Mini green house?

Something about a refracting hood for a lamp, or something like
that. I didn't read too much into it.

So how's the crust on this thing? Is it like a white bread crust,
or worse?

I really found the crust to differ depending on the type of bread baked in
it. When I've done a French bread recipe it is quite crispy.

There was a 'baking with bread tubes' thread on alt.bread.recipes in the
last 10 days or so. I think some are glass and some metal, some fluted or
not. Likewise, it seems some people have trouble with them and some do
fine. I don't recall all the details of the thread.

I started that one in regards to the Pampered Chef metal tubes. Nothing to
do with the Pyrex glass tube.

I posted the same question a year and a half ago. Here's the link to
the thread.

I've only used it for basic white bread. The crust is nice. The round
slices are "cute" for sandwiches. I don't use it much, but it is
worth the 50 cents or whatever we paid for it.

Thanks. Maybe I'll go back today and see if it's still at the
thrift shop.
