Default Turtle Soup. Endangered?

We ran across some recipes for turtle soup, but turtle meat is not
available here in the Pacific Northwest. Does anyone sell turtle meat
online?

I lived in Louisiana MANY years ago, and I thought I remembered hearing
that the turtles were protected now, and that you couldn't eat them
anymore. True? False?

Thanks,

Anthony
