Please read for comprehension. I'll repeat and type slowly for you.

Since I wasn't SEEING it, I couldn't tell which was filtering it.

When you said it was GG then I knew it was my own filters.

I just SAID that it was my local GG filter -- once you mentioned that it
*WAS* GG spam. Jesus, Steve -- you're not usually this dim; but you
can still prove me wrong.

Thanks for making my point. Filtering on gmail in the From header kills
most GG spam *and* many legitimate posters. Filtering on *actual GG
posts* by using the Message-ID header kills ALL GG spam and not the
legitimate gmail users like you.

Boy, have you got THAT right!!

Oh, wait! There is no moderator.

What we're experiencing is the blessing and the curse of Usenet: anyone
can say anything without much fear of reprisal by anyone other than
being killfiled by the offended. The shame of that is that it should be
necessary to do that in order to cull the crap.

Ted, there's a moderated group for recipes only (no conversation),
rec.food.recipes. Lots of people find fault with it, but the very first
recipe I ever "got off the internet" came from r.f.r. Maybe
rec.food.recipes would be more satisfying to you.

Nah, don't worry about it. Your only "error" was in not knowing that
THIS group is not moderated -- some are, most are not. Some (the
computer groups I read) are not moderated and stay on topic -- the idiots
and assholes are pretty much ignored and there's not much spam on them.
They just take care of the topical questions that come their way. I've
found them to be *very* helpful and cannot for the life of me understand
why some of the folks who regularly post here don't ask their computer
questions at the appropriate place.

If what you're using to read news has killfile capability, it's probably
worth your time to learn how to use it effectively - it will help cut
down on the crap a little bit.

That's how we let off steam here at r.f.c. Take it out on r.f.r.

I still see (most?) of your posts, sf. If I could afford some other

Wasn't there a recent thread about so many of the recipes posted to rfr
being bad? Can't recall who started it but IIRC they'd tried a couple (?)
of the recipes and said they were awful. I recall some comments about the
large number of recipes that call for canned soup and boxed mixes. But yes,

One of my pet peeves is people who post:

"Your first post here and all you can write is an off topic comment to
the
non-existent moderator in an unmoderated newsgroup."

Without bothering to check first.

And you don't share the job, you share your body. And the roundtrip
airfare to New York each week comes out of the salary.

I've been posting since 1991. How about you?

I'm gonna kinda follow this recipe but without the potato and added
toasted dried minced onions, mustard flour, minced garlic, Italian
seasoning and some liquid smoke...maybe some bbq sauce or ketchup as
well. Oh I'm using 1 lb beef and 1 lb pork for ground meat.

@@@@@ Now You're Cooking! Export Format

Grape Jelly Meatballs II

none

=== MEATBALLS ===
2 pounds lean ground beef
1/4 cup potato; peeled, grated
1 egg
1 small onion; grated
bread crumbs
Salt; to taste
Freshly-ground black pepper; to taste
=== SAUCE ===
1 bottle Heinz chili sauce - (13 oz)
1 jar grape jelly - (5 oz)
1 dash Worcestershire sauce

Combine first 4 ingredients in large bowl and mix well. Add enough
breadcrumbs to make meatballs the proper consistency; if the mixture
becomes too dry and crumbly, add a little milk and continue. Season with
salt and pepper. Form into small meatballs.
Brown meatballs, a few at a time, in a large skillet over medium-high
heat. If meat is very lean, you may need to add a bit of oil to your
skillet.
Blend sauce ingredients and pour over meatballs. Cover and simmer about
30 minutes, stirring occasionally or, transfer meatballs to a crockpot.
Add sauce, stir to coat, cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 10 hours.
This recipe yields about 100 meatballs.

There was. To each one's own, yeah? I don't get many from there but
the first one I ever took from the internet was from there.

From the Yield: This recipe yields about 100 meatballs.

That's fifty meatballs per pound of meat. The rest of the ingredients
don't bulk things up much. It's also roughly three meatballs per ounce
of meat. When does a meatball classify as a bb? I think the yield is
wrong.

Well, I'll be damned. To me, half golf ball sized is small.

Is it like dressing ten pounds of raw unslit medium prawns? Much work.
Gone quickly. No appreciation. Or did I miss the point?
