Probably because not too many of us have serious arthritis in our
hands yet. I definately have a brand preference. I thought I'd lost
mine, so I bought another. It just didn't open cans like the original
one - *wrong* brand. Went out and found the right brand and it opens
cans like a dream. I found the other one, so now I have two.

I have serious arthritis in my hands but still use the manual can
opener I bought from the Fuller Brush Man almost 25 years ago. It
still works great. Easy to squeeze the handles for the initial cut and
very easy to turn the knob. I do need help with jars and any other
screw on top.

Just makes sense. Electric can openers don't do a heck of a lot of good in
the event of a power failure

Manual one that cuts around the side and not the old fashioned ones
that just cut the sharp edged top off.

I had one of those, but I had the Devil's own time getting it started
on the
edge of the can. (It was an Oxo, IIRC.)

I've gone back to the Swingaway, and I couldn't be happier.

Ah yes.. the classic, sturdy Swing-A-Way1 My manual of choice. You have
excellent taste.
Second runner up is the standard top cutting Oxo. All others are just POS.

Yup, Swing-A-Way is it! I wonder how many of us who said we
prefer manual can openers use this brand?

And not just any Swing-A-Way, thankyouverymuch! Make it the larger one
for me. An excellent, low cost investment for the well stocked kitchen.

I have an electric one that does this and can be tricky to get started
sometimes. I do usually keep it on the counter, but it takes up very
little room.

I have switched back and forth over the years between manual and
electric. Sometimes it is just easier to do it by hand.

Seems to me that would leave a sharp side? The
top type at least leave the rounded edge on. I've never
tried the side kind, though.

I haven't tried those, either. I don't cut the lid of the can completely
off. I use the end of a spoon to pull up the lid, dump the contents and
push the lid back down. Works for me

When side cutters first appeared I bought one and immediately
cut myself on the first can! I am told that they have improved
but I've never wanted to try again.

Top cut would win hands down. You have to search for side cutters,
but you can buy top cutters at the grocery store.

Personally, I've never understood what the appeal of a side cutter is.
The sharp edge is still there.... but it's on the can instead of the
lid. http://www.baddesigns.com/canopen.html

There is no internal lip left on the can which makes getting the
contents out easier. The removed lid can also be placed back on top of
the can for short term sealing. The sharp edge really isn't still there
either as the way the cutting wheel works it rounds over that cut edge.

about the date (13 June, 6/17, your preference) since some of the

Really? A date is not easier to filter out for me, but they will be
easier to find. How do you filter out some dates and not others?

Filter on that date appearing in the Subject header. That date won't
appear in subsequent survey Subject headers so you won't be killing new
ones that you haven't yet read.

Sorry, sloppy language. If I see people talking about Survey
Breastfeeding,
I don't know when it showed up, I go to the website, and find it's 3
or 10
surveys back. I see 6/13 survey canopeners, I know that it was
posted
today and the chances are good that I can register my opinion.

I apologize for causing confusion.

Freaks! Or arthitis sufferers, maybe. Personally, I just don't care
to have another electrical appliance taking up space when my OXO
can opener is just as effortless and no cord needed.

Counter space is the determining factor here, too.

OXO?...No way!

Swing Away. 3 of them One almost as old as I am. Still works like a
