That is just so aggravating--- at least until you become adept at
winging it with recipes. It's like "2 large onions". When I think
"large onion", I'm usually thinking round onions at least 4" in
diameter. But I bet that's not how others define them. Then there's
cloves of garlic where clove size can vary significantly with the type
of garlic, especially hard neck vs. small neck varieties. I just throw
in garlic to taste and that's usually more than most recipes specify.
