Default On Sale? Yeah, right!

ACME supermarket is advertising a sale:

Dannon Bottled Spring Water
(24 pack/500 ml each)
$9.79

That translates to 3.17 U.S. gallons
ACME's "Sale" price per gallon: $3.09

The greedy BUMS!!!

Who in their right mind...?

Common marketing ploy that gets those of
us who are mathematically challenged. : /

For example, I was proud of taking up Planet
Fitness's offer of $10 gym visits, until I realized that
if I go three times a week that is $120+ a month,
a helluva lot more than the standard $600 a year or
so. Not much of a bargain.

I can fill up a gallon jug at the Culligan kiosks at the supermarket
for .25/gallon.

I understand most of that bottled stuff is just from city water
supplies, anyway.

And I laugh whenever I drive past a local bottling plant that only
bottles water. When it opened they got into some legal issues because
they were using city water and labeling it as spring water. They solved
that by trucking water in from a former spring fed municipal reservoir
that was taken out of service because it is contaminated with benzene
and various industrial solvents. Their main customer appears to be
Walmart because there are at least 20 trailers always parked in the lot
ready to be filled.

On Fri, 08 Dec 2006 15:10:20 -0600, Andy <q> rummaged among random
neurons and opined:

<snip>

And while we're on the subject, why do bottles of water have a "sell
by" date? Does water go bad?

Just askin',
