Wait 15 minutes and test again. If not back up to "normal" try another 15 grams of fast-acting carbs and another 15 minute wait. Fast acting carbs are glucose tablets, fruit juice, skim milk, regular soda and other high sucrose things. We have skim milk (ugh), regular soda and some sweet fruit juices (argh), occasionally, real orange juice (Screwdriver for breakfast - Doctor's orders). I'll try that 15-15 method next time. In my case I can't always FEEL the hypo. If others are around, they might notice that I am acting strangely. But I might be by myself. So I think it's best to treat. |

I've never noticed anything unusual. For me it was usually (but not always) shakes, an inability to properly control my limbs, a feeling of vertigo/nausea/dizziness. I only went unconscious once, and that was before diagnosis. The best post-diagnosis was when I was in the middle of the pool and suddenly couldn't swim. But I made it to the side somehow. I can't recall having one in the past couple of years; in fact they've been rare since I added metformin three years back. I've never noticed anything unusual. They can vary and like I said in my other reply, sometimes there are none. This can be scary because you don't always think clearly when you have a hypo. I've had one, gone into the kitchen for candy or other food, then spaced out and forgotten why I went in there. Sometimes I wind up crying as I'm putting away dishes, or washing dishes or whatever else I can see that needs done, never realizing I need food until I see it. One I passed out on the fridge. Literally in the fridge. I opened it up, then tried to crawl inside. That's how bad the brain can get when you're having one. For me, if I do get symptoms they can really vary. Might get light headed, see spots or bright colors swirling around overhead. I might start laughing or saying silly things. Acting drunk. If I am typing, I make a ton of typos and don't realize it. Or I realize it but am unable to do anything about it. My legs can turn to rubber. I can feel sick to my stomach, or get a headache. Get really dizzy. Sometimes pass out. Get all hot and cold at the same time, breaking out in a sweat. I might feel super hungry, and or crave sweet foods. Or worse yet, I will refuse food when someone else attempts to give it to me. I will know I am hungry but will get adamant and say it is not time for me to eat. Sometimes I can get really snappish and surly to those around me. Might have one or more of those symptoms or none at all. |

I usually get the shakes and have a problem keeping focus, sometimes get
pretty grouchy...walked out in front of a car once...thank goodness it was in a parking lot and the guy was driving slow, he probably thought I was nuts. I am on Metformin so don't go hypo often , but that day I had fasting blood tests, and had errands to run while in town and forgot to eat, so by 4 in the afternoon I was feeling pretty lousy ![]() Jacquie "Nick Cramer" > wrote in message ... > Alan S > wrote: >> > wrote: >> >> >So, you don't think I have to worry about an FBG of 60?
