Medicare costs money. And it doesn't pay much at all in terms of prescriptions unless you get really a lot of them. Even then you still have to pay some out of pocket. I am not on it. Eligible but my insurance I currently have is better. Now I could be wrong but I just went to their website and it does not look like diabetic supplies are covered. Some meds, yes. But not strips for the meter. At least they're not on their list of covered meds. |

Work out which is going to cost more. 100 strips or future complications. There are ways to achieve results with minimal strip use. If you're interested I'll give you a planned testing regimen. It works like this http://www.alt-support-diabetes.org/NewlyDiagnosed.htm but takes longer using two or three strips per day. Yes, I'm on Medicare. Between Medicare and my Part D policy the cost of the strips are minimal. That's not the problem. The prescription for the strips call for one test a day and Wall Mart won't let me have extra strips until the required number of days pass unless I pay full price for them. When I see my doctor at the end of the month, I am going to have her write me a new script calling for more testing. Barking Dog |

He might be making a small co-payment, but not paying anything like retail price. Our drug plan now pays like part D so it was better before Medicare but there was no option. Social Security put him on Medicare automatically when they did the disability determination. Our health insurance became part B. From our experience, Medicare's drug plan is not better for people who take more drugs. Just the opposite. Their limits are based on the retail price of a drug, not your co-pay. Lots of people fell into the "donut hole" this year and that's why congress has to make some changes. The more drugs one uses the worse one does with Medicare part D. Unfortunately most perscription drug plans adopted the Part D method of payment for their subscribers on Medicare. His pump was free as was his new meter. He pays a small co-pay for the pump gear and insulin. -- Janet Wilder Bad spelling. Bad punctuation Good Friends. Good Life |

Even then you still have : to pay some out of pocket. I am not on it. Eligible but my insurance I : currently have is better. Now I could be wrong but I just went to their : website and it does not look like diabetic supplies are covered. Some meds, : yes. But not strips for the meter. At least they're not on their list of : covered meds. On Medicare, strips etc are covered byt the Medicare, not teh MedicareD drug plan. I get the strips et al form a mail order co. tht fills my MD's perscription, bills both medicare and my supplimentary insruance so i pay nothing adn get them sent right otthe door. madicare D, the drug plan, pays 75% of teh cost of the drug until you his a total of something like $22250 in drug costs (you and your privider), then you go into the donut hole, paying 100% of your sosts until you have paind something in excess of $3,600 oout of pocket. Some pland ameliorate this part a bit. Wendy |

I have a sneaking suspicion that my Doc told me that I'm pre-diabetic to scare me into eating right and losing twenty pounds. Although I could be wrong (I'm frequently am). Barking Dog. |
