FWIW we have had an Amana bottom freezer unit for over 5 years without a
single problem.

I have had an Amana (freezer on top) for about 3 years without a problem.
Everything works. Only bad thing is we don't use the ice fast enough and
sometimes it's kind of nasty, so every now and then I dump the ice and let
it start over.

<SNIP>
I had one for about 7 years and the compressor went bad. I wasn't very
happy. I'm not sure I'm going to buy another Amana.

My Amana side by side still is great with no problems after 9 years. Just the
luck of the draw in some cases.

Same here. I have a 27 cubic foot side-by-side that we got in March of
1996. We haven't had any problems so far.

Ditto, here. The workmanship was adequate, but the parts broke easily,
were hard to replace, and broke again after replacement. Also, it never
cooled adequately. I'll definitely look somewhere else next time.
