Wow.

If the resistance is from the metal faces near the screw, a drop of machine oil
or automobile engine oil in there might do the trick.

But if it's the blade edge contact that is causing the resistance, with blades
that short, I don't think there's any way you could bend one blade very slightly
outward to make it easier. You'd be better off returning them, explaining the
situation, and asking if this is normal.

Did you buy them in a Brookstone B&M store, or online/mail order? They're pretty
good about returns, aren't they?
