A group of scientists, including Dr. James Hill in Denver, has compiled
a registry of people who have lost large amounts of weight (without
surgery) and managed to keep it off for at least 5 years. Some common
characteristics of the people in this registry:
Slow, steady weight loss. No cabbage soup diet here.
Exercise.
A permanent lifestyle change. Again, no 5-day weight loss miracle.
(Implicit in all of the above) Hard work and discipline.
