Fermenting! Once picked pineapple doesn't ripen, it immediately
begins to ferment/rot. Where you live the closest to field ripened
pineapple is canned. Same for melon. Many fruits are too delicate to
ship ripened. I can't grow pineapple here but I can grow melons and I
do, the difference between stupermarket cantaloupes/honedews and vine
ripened from our garden is like night and day. Since we've been
growing our own we no longer are able to eat stupidmarket melons....
they are as tasty as firewood.
