Red Delicious are genetically identical to the original.

What is different nowadays is temperature & carbon dioxide regimen (&
waxing, etc.) that lets us take apples out of cold storage almost a year
after harvest.

These apples look great and are crispy enough. But we have not managed
yet a manner to properly conserve their harvest-time taste.

('Honeycrisps' are even more complicated, but their taste is said to
actually improve during their somnambulent sojourn.)
