We have a very good system here.

There's always a designated non-drinking driver.

The last one we had, the SO wasn't feeling crash hot, so she became the
taxi driver for the night. Our group (which gets together on a regular
basis) all chip in $5 each for petrol and that gives you a pick up and
delivery home afterwards. Luckily, we all live within about 20mins of each
other.

Per couple, it's $10, which is *WAY* cheaper than a taxi both ways......
and a helluva lot cheaper than a DUI fine.

We usually have about 6-8 couples, which works out to $60-$80 for the
petrol. A tank of gas costs us about $60 at the moment, and we'd only use
about 1/4 for all the trips.

So you get picked up, free food, free tasting of as much wine as you want,
and a ride home for $10 per couple.
Life doesn't get any better than that :-)
