OK, I got other stuff, but still problem. Recipe say "2 T nonfat powdered
milk" OK, I wus gonna buy some n/f pwdr milk. $5.75!!! Are you freakin'
kidding me? It's crap pwdr milk, ferchrisakes. Did I mention $3.38lb for
corned beef!!?? Who the Hell said Walmart was a deal?

Just leave it out, you likely wouldn't miss it... milk makes bread a bit
more tender/wussy is all, you may like a more robust bread better anyway....
instead of powdered milk you can always substitute part of your liquid with
whole milk 1 : 1.

FYI when searching net for bread machine recipes I tend to like any bread
recipe that has buttermilk in it. It has a really nice crumb.

What brand is the machine ?

We have a couple here we picked up at garage sales
when SWMBO got onto the web
and found recipe books for each brand .

Option two
this has proved a helpful resource

It is irritating though how the exact same mix/recipe
turns out so bloody different depending on brand .
you could always go NO milk recipes .

Powdered milk usually reconstitutes 1/3 cup powdered milk to 2/3 cup water.

Leave it out (we hate the taste) or substitute a little milk for part of
the water in the recipe.

It's a RECIPE, not a COMMANDMENT. Substitute some real milk for part of
the liquid or add some melted butter to the liquid. Got any protein
powder? That might work also.

LOL! I have a large container of it but just for baking and the rare, out
of milk, need some for this cooking recipe'.

Sure, thousands. Depending on what you have handy, here's some of my own
top picks.


MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05

Title: Xcarol's Fav Rye bread
Categories: Breadmaker, Xxcarol
Yield: 12 Servings

1 1/3 c Water
3 tb Butter
2 2/3 c Flour, white or wheat
1 1/3 c Rye flour
3 tb Brown sugar
2 ts Caraway seeds
1 ts Salt
3 tb Gluten powder
2 ts Bread machine yeast

A high rising bread, this one will take to whole wheat in part or all
of the bread flour. Increase gluten by 1 TB if all whole wheat. You
cvan also use regular white sugar in place of the brown.

This is for a 2 LB loaf, select whole grain is you have it, if not
basic white bread cycle will work.

Made even with all white flour, this will be a darker blend of bread.
It's effect when made with whole wheat flour is a dark and rustic
whole grain goodness.

Add ingredients to machine according to manufacturer's directions.

This is the best loaf of light, airy bread that I have made in my
ABM. I wish I could say what ABM Bread book it came from, but I got
the recipe before I was concerned about such things. Never made it
until now.

This is by far our favorite dinner bread. It is closer to genuine
"french" breaf than any other recipe we have tried so maybe it is

Title: Crusty French Bread

Yield: 1 Loaf

1/2 tb Yeast
2 c Flour, bread
2 c Flour
1 ts Sugar

Bring all ingredients to room temperature and pour into bakery, in
order. Set "baking control" at 11 o'clock. Select "French bread" and
push Start.

Note: In the full size recipe I used 2 Tablespoons Granulated Garlic
to make a very good galic bread that when slathered with butter and
placed into oven to heat made an EXCELLENT addition to

I purchase powdered milk in any quantity I desire at the natural foods co-op
where I also buy my flour/seeds/etc. for bread baking.

Tried using it yet? The French or Italian I sent ya are easy and nothing
special needed for either. The french will be more crusty and the italian,
more chewy.

It's ok to devour the first loaf warm with butter in hunks because it's not
cool enough to have firmed for cutting (grin). The French one works best
for that. The italian will become slicable while still a little warm.
