Default Just bragging ...

Tasted and tested the '05 reds today.

The '05 Merlot (from Lodi area grapes) is still mediocre (as I find most
Merlots to be). Color too light; nose unremarkable; something slightly
bitter on the palate. "She-who-must-be-obeyed" seems to think it's OK, but
I.m not too impressed. pH 3.66.

However ... the '05 Syrah (from a vineyard just down the road here - Sierra
Foothills; 30 year old vines) is remarkable. The wine has fallen wonderfully
clear and bright - deep ruby. The nose --- oh, the nose; strong and firm,
with suggestions of raspberry and plum. To the taste, the wine is still
young - strong tannins that you can still sense long after the tasting. Yet
smooth, with a long round finish. Did I mention I really liked it? lol pH
3.62

Decided not to rack and leave both on the oak (last racked on to oak 3
months ago).
