I'm just about to bottle a Foch made from 2005 grapes. Two weeks ago I fined
with egg whites (10ml in 20 ml warm water for 6 gal Carboy). I racked last week. The wine appears clear. However, I noticed some grape color residual stuff on the neck of the carboy. I haven't noticed this before. I also noticed it the bottom of my glass after tasting the wine. What is this? Do you think it is a result of egg whites? It still tastes good.....just the appearance is of concern. Herman |

It doesn't sound stable yet. If the wine looks clear, it's odd that it
would leave a film like deposit in a poured glass. I have Syrah's that leave a film on the bottle over time, but never saw anything leave a film behind in a glass. Maybe you should consider another light fining treatment, I usually use sparkoloid on reds.
