There seems to be several sizes of corks that can be installed into a normal
1/5th wine bottle. If you're only making fairly small batches what size works the best? And what are the best sort of corkers to use? |

The size of the batch has nothing at all to do with the size of the cork. If you're planning to age the wine for several years before drinking it, use the longest #9 corks you can get hold of, typically #9 x 1-3/4". If you're planning to drink the wine promptly, then #8 x 1-1/2" should do just fine. >what are the best sort of corkers to use? A floor corker is my first choice. My second choice would be a double-lever hand-held corker such as this: http://www.greatfermentations. com/Corker-Portugues-Double-Lever/productinfo/4039/ |

I didn't mean that the size of the batch would make a difference in the cork except in the regard that you don't want to buy a floor model corker if you're only making wine once or twice a year and in small batches only. |
