Default White wine in Red barrels?

Dear All

Can you vinify white wine in a used red barrel.

I have an occasion to buy a three year old red wine barrel (228liters) but I
would like to make Chardonnay in it.

If it is carefully cleaned I can't see why I could not but anyone who has
had an experience with this, their comments are most welcomed!

Thanks.

Marc
