So I am enthusiastic about developing an organic vineyard on my 5 acres of
suitable (I think) land in southern Spain on the fringe of the 'Sherry' areas. Clearly there are many decisions to be made and one of the most important is : What variety of grape should I use? I would want a grape that can resist as far as possible fungal disease although I know that some copper sulphate spraying will become necessary. I want a vine that can be trained along 3 strong wires in rows supported by 6 foot posts. I want a grape that can be used either for wine or for juice. (silly point I guess) I am not fussed whether it is white or red as the most important matter is the quality of the juice. Any pointers as to where I should look for information? Nige |
