Default Spagnols-good reds or white?

I know it's personal preference but what Spagnols wine varieties
produce the best? I have tried Merlot with good results. Chardonnay
didn't have any body. I'm looking for reds (cabs, etc.)and white
(similar to a Chard).

I have made Cellar Classic Gewürztraminer and Johannesburg Riesling. Both
were excellent. The Gewürz, I have made 3 times now and it is one of my
most popular wines. I made the Cellar Classic Shiraz and was disappointed
with it.
