It is interesting that at w/e's the number of new posts drops drastically.
Then Monday -- back to normal.

It becomes apparent that a great many posters do it while they are "at
work" --- at someone else's (?) expense and time!
Last w/e I suppose there might have been a couple of dozen, in all, in the
two days. Today there were 50 odd when I logged on!

Just an aside -- as it were!

It's a good idea to give others "the benefit of the doubt". Although there
are certainly those who "do it while at work", it seems to me that the
greatest activity is in early evening (after work). [This is more difficult
to determine because one must look at the headers to determine the time zone
of the poster, and speculate as to what their working hours might be].

Perhaps weekend activity is low because people spend them on holiday, or
performing vintning activities?

Amongst those who "do it at work", some of them may lack internet access
from home, and many of them have their employer's permission to do so
(during coffee and lunch breaks, as well as during "slow times").

Also a great many of us are retired, and thus anything we do during "office
hours" is at no one's expense and time but our own.

I post from work... the news servers here actually work :^) Besides, we
are allowed to surf for personal stuff during breaks and lunch.

I don't really use the internet at home much on the weekends, as it is
right now.

I post from work. I own the company. All 10 people who work for me have
access to the internet here at work and can use company facilities and time
to use the internet as long as they get their work done.

During my extended stays in London, I found that the people there regularly
left work early or sometime during the day to do shopping or pick up laundry
as shops were only open during office hours. A boss needs to be flexible
and realistic and create a workable, livable environment. He will get more
work out of his people if he does.
