TN Moulin-Touchais 1976
This wine was properly stored by me since shortly after release.
Moulin-Touchais is the top wine of the large Loire firm Touchais. They select the wines from their many Anjou holdings that appear best to produce it. Thus it usually is not a single vineyard wine, but then Krug Champagne is not a single vineyard wine either. It usually is a very ripe, and often quite sweet, wine. As in much of France and Germany, the very warm 1976 year allowed production of very ripe late harvest wines in many colder regions, and Anjou in the Loire was no exception. This 1976 Moulin-Touchais is medium yellow and very bright. It is extremely ripe and concentrated. It is very sweet, but balanced by enough acidity. The bouquet and taste are both very intense and complex. Some words that come to mind are very ripe pineapple, mixed light fruits(pear, white peach, etc), honey, a hint of mango, and a touch of mixed spice. The finish is very long. This wine seems to be about at a peak now, but it likely will hold very well for many years to come. |
