MILL VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - A 76-year-old Marin County psychiatrist and grape
grower who was vacationing in Thailand is the latest Californian known to have
died in this week's Asian tsunami.

The family of William Dickerson was notified Monday he was killed at a resort
near Phuket when a wall of water 30 feet high hit the beach. Dickerson's body
was identified by a passport photo. His wife, Jane, remains missing.

I was listening to the Dr. Dean Edell radio show last night and he
mentioned that Dickerson had been producing wines in California since the
early 1970's while remaining an active pyschiatrist. The morning he left
for a vacation in Thailand, he set aside time to counsel a businnessman
who was a patient. The patient was reported to have stated that Dickerson
told him in their session to "live life, try to live your dreams. Nobody
knows what will happen tomorrow."

Whether or not it is true, it is a sobering lesson.

Dickerson provided grapes to Ravenswood Winery for their Dickerson
Vineyards Zins, and Joel Peterson of Ravenswood in turn is the vintner
for some of Dickerson wines.

Wow. How sad.
Ravenswood Dickerson Zin with its huge cherry components has always
been one of my top 5 or 6 single vineyards Zins.
May Dickerson's legacy live forever!
