With pork chops, cauliflower, and salad, the 2007 Knoll Ried Schutt
Durnsteiner Riesling Smaragd. This is great stuff, big and dry but not the least bit austere. Peach and white nectarine, with a little lime note from the acidity. Full, fresh, fun. Stands up and matches well with the food. This could use time, but damn it's tasty already. Long and very minerally on finish, this goes on and on. Will try to resist and put my remaining bottles away for a while. A- , with room for improvement in my view. And I don't care what anyone says, I love the label. Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.** |
