Default Glen Fiona 99 Appellation Columbia Valley Syrah

Tasted this wine recently and found it rich and very expressive.

Anyone can tell me more about it ?

Glen Fiona is a winery located in Walla Walla, Washington, which has
become something of a hotbed for wine lovers in Eastern Washington.
That's the area where the grapes are grown but the amenities of city
life are few and far between. Walla Walla is like an oasis. Glen Fiona
was something of a pioneer in making Syrah in Washington State and was
known at one time for being the only winery in the USA to produce
exclusively Syrah. I believe that is still the case but I'm not
certain. The winemaker and part-owner was Rusty Figgins until he left
a couple of years ago to pursue other things. Rusty is the brother of
Gary Figgins, owner/winemaker of Leonetti Cellar, one of the top (some
would say *the* top) wineries in Washington State. Glen Fiona was
privately owned but was sold just a few days ago to Silver Lake, a
larger Seattle winery.

Syrah has become a rising star in Washington State. A few years ago
only a few were available. Now it's the third most-planted red grape
here. I have had some superb ones. I would be interested in how you
thought the Glen Fiona compared with some of the better Northern Rhone
Syrahs.

Interestingly, Ian will be visiting Walla Walla in a couple of weeks
as part of his trip down the USA West Coast after he leaves the
Seattle area. I have been looking forward for some time to meeting him
and Jacquie. I plan on taking them around to visit some of the
Seattle-area wineries before sending them on their way to Eastern
Washington and from there to points west and south.

Will he be here for the Nov. 6/7th DeLille release party? That's usually
pretty good.
