Default Vintage 2003 in Germany (esp. Rheingau)

Hi all,

I've read about the good weather, early harvest and so on in Germany
last summer, with high sugar levels in grapes and so. This is naturally
accompanied by the normal "year of the decade/century" hype.

What I'm interested in whether anybody here actually has tasted some of
the 2003 wines, especially from the Rheingau. I am not quite sure
whether just a high sugar level in the must makes a good wine; I,
personally, also want a good balance, with a good backbone and acids, as
well. Anybody there that already knows whether these will be there as well?

Cheers,

Hi Topi,
you are a bit early, I think. I've not seen any notes for any German 2003
yet.

There's just a few 2003 Qba's drifting in. Wine Spectator only now just
published its 2002 Tasting Notes!

Hi Anders,

I know I'm early, I was hoping somebody had some barrel samples or other
early notes to report on.

Just wondering whether I should already start saving for the 2003 Germans...

Germans...

I know from hearsay that there will be some TBA's from people who haven't
ever made such stuff (surprise) and also that some have been quite satisfied
with the general ripeness :-) - but I have no idea about the quality of
2003.
The Saar might be a safe bet, traditionally so in hot years..
