Default Austrian Wine (from January thread)

Forgive the delay of a month in responding!

SO:

WEISS is Manfred Weiss in Apetlon (we'll start with a couple of
vintages of the gruner veltliner eisweins)

and it's HEISS from Illmitz
-1998 TBA Weissburgunder-Sauvignon Blanc
-1999 TBA Riesling
-2001 Eiswein Traminer
-2001 BA Sauvignon Blanc Akazien-Barrique

We head back out there in a few weeks to taste the new wines, so
hopefully will have more to add to our portfolio.

What are your favorites?

It is Franz Heiss, and I am very excited to bring his stuff over.
While it's true that almost all Burgenland vintners make a botrytis
affected wine, there are of course those that do it with more finesse.
Heiss certainly falls into that catagory . His Akazien-barrique is
in fact aged only in barrels made from Acacia wood. No oak. Such an
interesting wine.

A lot of our dry gruner veltliners are really typical Austrian style,
so it will be interesting to see how the American palate goes for it.
