Default Cellar wine

I expect to buy a wine cellar.

Do you have any recommendation for me ?

What do I have to look for when I shop?

What are the important points.

Thank you very much for your help

Hi Steve. I highly recommend going to http://www.stratsplace.com,
where you'll find quite a lot of information on wine cellars, racking,
storage, plus individual reviews of standalone cellars. You can find
the reviews and other comments at
http://www.stratsplace.com/storageunits.html. Lots of other useful and
entertaining information on that website, so have fun! Another website
of which I'm aware is http://www.cellaringwine.com, but I haven't
looked at it, so can't comment on how useful it'll be.

To get you started, I'll go on my personal experience. Firstly,
whatever you buy will always be too small :-), so keep that in mind
(without blowing your budget *too* much). Personally, I have a 34
bottle cellar, so I just use it for the few wines I'm storing
long-term and then keep the everyday wines in cardboard boxes in my
basement (not ideal, but fortunately for me my basement temperatures
aren't too variable, and it is only the wines which I intend to drink
in the very near future, so they shouldn't come to too much harm).

I bought mine from Wine Enthusiast and can't compliment them enough on
their service -- I think it took them two days from time of order to
deliver! The one thing I would change if I could is to get a cellar
with a readout. My cellar does not have any sort of readout of the
temperature, so I had to get a small digital thermometer (and
hygrometer, so I could check on the humidity) and keep playing with
the thermostat until it got to where I wanted it. If (when?) I buy
another cellar, I will definitely look for one with a built-in
readout. Most of them seem to have LED displays at the top.

Good luck

Ian
