Thanks If you buy from only one winery, first check to see if they will ship the wine for you. If they will not or you want to ship more than one winery wine, try some shipping service that will do the paper work for you. Before you do this, consider that that usual standard shipping methods can take up to several weeks, and the wine may be exposed to excessive temperatures. Large temperature controlled containers sometimes are used for large commercial shipments, but I doubt if you can find such temperature controlled shipment for small private shipments. The only safe method of shipment often is by express air. This is very expensive. It may cost around US$100 for 3 bottles between the US and Europe and even more between the US and many Asian nations or Australia. You sometimes can select a time of the year when the wine is not likely to be exposed to excessive temperatures anywhere along the way via ship, but you are taking a risk. In any cases, the wine needs to be very well packed in foam plastic containers to help prevent sudden temperature changes. You also need to know the laws of the receiving country. In many cases, a small private package can be sent and arrive unopened. In other cases detailed customs inspection in the receiving country is required. If you use UPS, DHL, or Federal Express for international express shipment, see their web sites for details concerning shipment. I believe some of these services can provide the necessary paper work for international shipping in some cases. In any case a commercial invoice and a declaration of value usually must be attached to the package at the minimum. There may be custom fees for some countries, and not for others, for small private shipments. When there are custom fees, they sometimes can be prepaid by the shipper and sometimes not. |
