should forget that and try some of these.

Unless vintage dates and who made the wine is supplied, many of the
wines could range from outstanding to vile, from good value to rip
off, from too young to too old. So far as restaurant prices go, some
of the wines for which the estate is given appear to be of attractive
price if they are from a good year that is ready to drink.

Agree, without knowing vintage it's hard to say. And as CWDJRXYZ
notes, many appelations are listed without even producer! Gevry-
Chambertin can range from $15 to $100+, similar situation with Chianti
Classico, Brunello, CdP,. etc.

The things that seem the best deals on current info would be the
Farina nebbiolos (hard to argue with Barolo/Barbaresco under $50 on a
winelist) or the Don Melchor.

The equation is simple -
55 bottles (excluding alcfree)
@ 2 bottles per day (1 ea lunch & dinner)
= 27 day cruise

Enjoy !!!!!

they now charge $15US a bottle for corkage (I was charged once not
the second time) these are mostly recent vintage.

Lat Princess Cruise I took they searched my bags for wines and took
them. The list, while not great, will be reduced by the cheaper bottles
going early. This has happened on every cruise I've taken and Princess
seems to run out of inexpensive wines fast.

Forgive my ignorance as I have never been on a cruise, I thought that
the wine was supplied with dinner????

There was a time in the 1800s when top restaurants always had
decanters of both white and red wine on the table. A book written in
the late 1800s by the retired Swiss chef of the Delmonico in New York
gives information about this. He states that not matter what fine
wines may be ordered at the meal, the table must nevertheless have
decanters of white and red wine. There are restaurants today that have
tasting menus that include matched wines in the basic costs, but I do
not recall seeing any restaurants in recent years that include even
very plain house wines at no extra cost with the a la carte
selections.

A few years ago I frequented a pizza restaurant outside of Marseille, that
had a nice outside lunch area. The pizza was OK if not memorable. Wine
was included in the price: red, pink or white.

Each diner was served a 1.5 liter plastic bottle of wine. All well chilled.
Needless to say, only screwtops were employed, making this
well ahead of its time.

I don't remember if the bottles had labels or not...

It is supplied if you pay for it. Only a few cruise lines on the very
upper end of cost and amenities give you alcohol. Silversea I believe is
the only one. They make as much money from you for alcohol as they
charge for the cruise in most cases.

In most French routier restaurants, you will get a bottle of
housewine, red, with your lunch and, as you say, it comes with a screw
top. Not bad when you consider the lunch is probably only about 10
euros.

One of the best rustic meals I have ever had was in an Italian lorry
stop restaurant where you were not given a choice of meal, it ended up
on the table with a bottle of red. It was a beef dish with olives and
green beans and the wine was quite palatable and just for a few lira
in those days.
