Tahini - Blech
I got some at Kroger last night and I found it it was unsalted and
unsweetened. I got it to make hummus with it. I think from now on I'll stick to peanut butter hummus, because even after mixing it with things like garlic, lemon juice, chick peas, etc. it still has a very strong sesame seed flavor that's sort of bitter. I don't like unsalted/unsweetened peanut butter either though. Is there a brand of tahini that actually tastes good? -Rubystars |

I stick to a very basic recipe which just involved blending a tin of chickpeas with some garlic puree and a tiny bit of oil. Sarah -- |

I think it is a matter of what you're used to. You may also have used too much Tahini. Are you using sweetened peanut butter in your hummus?! Tahini can be funny stuff. When you add a little water it gets stiffer but loosens up with the addition of more water. I mix equal parts lemon juice, water and tahini to make a versatile sauce. Use it on, steamed Kale , Collard Greens, mixed vegetables, Pasta... Tahini and Miso also makes a great sauce for Pasta (kinda cheese like) it is also tasty on toast. These ideas also work with natural unsweetened peanut butter. -nancy- |

Yeah well the recipes I had called for tahini and mentioned that peanut butter could be substituted so I just used Jif. It actually turned out really well and the lemon juice and garlic cut out the sweetness. I like the tahini version better the second day but the first day it was really bitter. I may try just using less tahini as someone mentioned. > Tahini can be funny stuff. Sounds cool. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions/comments. -Rubystars |

You could try tahini mixed with an equal amount of water and with
lemon juice. I like it that way, but not as it comes. Always use 'light' tahini - it is creamier and less bitter and easier to digest. Ronny |
