Vegan (alt.food.vegan) This newsgroup exists to share ideas and issues of concern among vegans. We are always happy to share our recipes- perhaps especially with omnivores who are simply curious- or even better, accomodating a vegan guest for a meal!

Default Vegan Recipe Sites

From:
http://beforewisdom.com/blog/?p=29
And:
http://beforewisdom.com/blog/?p=30

Compassion Over Killing
http://www.vegrecipes.org

Tastefully formatted site with beautiful pictures of the
completed recipes that make you want to chew on your
computer screen. Great mix of familiar foods, new dishes,
quick recipes, special recipes, faux animal food recipes
and from scratch plant based recipes.

Meatout Mondays ( produced by FARMUSA.org )
http://www.meatoutmondays.org/archive.htm

A short one page weekly newsletter Each week you get a new recipe
with an attractive picture of the finished dish, a short
informative article about the ingredients and a short section of
useful vegan/AR related information. You can read all of the past
recipes by clicking the URL above.

Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine
http://www.pcrm.org/health/recipes/

This recipe section is located in a special "health" section of the
PCRM site meant for the general public. This section is formatted
simply, but elegantly. Lots of useful health information. A very
large number of interesting recipes that still look easy to shop for
and easy to make. The recipes come with nutrition information
( calories, protein, fat etc )

The Vegetarian Resource Group
http://www.vrg.org/recipes/

Located in Baltimore the VRG has been promoting vegan diets long
before other players came on the scene. Staffed with nutritionists
they put out a monthly magazine with nutrition information, other
information, and several recipes. They have also published many
informative books on veganism over the years. The recipes come with
nutrition information ( calories, protein, fat etc... )

The Post Punk Kitchen
http://www.theppk.com/

Post Punk Kitchen is a public access vegan cooking show based in
Manhattan and this is their site. Large number of very interesting
recipes. Readers can rate recipes and submit recipes.
The site navigation and search tool is excellent. It is very easy
to find your way around.

VegWeb.com
http://www.vegweb.com

Updated regularly. Readers can contribute and rate recipes.
Searchable. Years of recipes in the archives. Recipes come with
reader based ratings and useful comments.

Vegan-Food.net
http://www.vegan-food.net/

Many, many vegan recipes. The recipes are organized by ingredient
and the site has a search tool. Readers can also post comments
about the recipes. Please do not let the small fonts and the color
choices throw you. Firefox users can press shift and + to make
the fonts larger. The owners have recently rebuilt their site with
CSS in preparation for changing to a friendlier color scheme.

Fat Free Vegan
http://www.fatfreevegan.com/

Large number of fat free or low fat vegan recipes. Many of the
recipes come with pictures. The site uses graphics well, without
being busy. Readers can submit their own recipes and rate recipes
already on the site. The home page has a long list of top rated
5 star recipes. The search tool is very good. Some of the recipes
link to a blog by the same name. The web site navigation back and
forth from the blog could be more graceful.
The recipes are quite good.

VegCooking.com by PETA
http://www.vegcooking.com/searchRecipes.asp

Large number of vegan recipes, many of them contributed by chefs.
Somehow the left navigation column seems prominent, but it is for
navigating to other PETA sites. The navigation column on the
right side is for the recipes. You want to start by clicking search
to be taken to a list of recipe categories.

ChooseVeg.com
http://www.chooseveg.com/

Hundreds of recipes. Simple and elegantly designed site. Easy
navigation. Lots of information about veganims on the site ideal for
people new to it all.

Kake's Vegan Cookery Site
http://www.earth.li/~kake/cookery/

This is British geek's personal recipe collection of 136 vegan
recipes. Her site is refreshingly plain in format. It is
extremely well organized, the search tool is very powerful, and
it is very easy to navigate around the site.

All Creatures
http://www.all-creatures.org/recipes.html

This is the recipe section of a grass roots Christian AR/vegetarian
group. The recipes are vegan and each recipe comes with a picture.
There is not search tool, but the site navigation is very good.

International Vegetarian Union - Recipes From Around The World
http://www.ivu.org/recipes/index.html

Almost 2000 recipes in English, more in other languages. Recipes
are organized by nationality, then ingredient or meal type.
The search tool mixes results from the IVU recipe section with
content from the rest of their site. The navigation between the
recipe index and the recipes could be more convenient.

OurVeganKitchen.com
http://www.ourvegankitchen.com/

Here is a new one, started by a husband and wife team. You can submit
recipes, it has a search tool, and easy navigation. Simple and
uncluttered.

rec.food.veg.cooking
http://www.groups.google.com/group/r....veg.cooking?h l=en

rec.food.veg.cooking is a usent group now accessible through the
web via Google Groups. There have to be at least 10 years worth
of recipes and cooking tips in the archives, all reachable with
Google's powerful search features. This is a strongly moderated
forum. Topics are kept to recipes and cooking.

Vegan Chef
http://www.veganchef.com/

The vegan chef is Beverly Lynn Bennett and this site showcases
some of her vegan recipes. The recipes look very good. The
site uses graphics without being busy. The search tool isn't very
good as it mixes in non recipe results with the recipes. Fortunately
the number of recipes on the site isn't too large so it is still
easy to navigate around these high quality recipes.

Vegan Mania
http://www.veganmania.com/

Simply, but nicely formatted site. The recipes are good, but the
web site could be better built for reader convenience. There is
no search tool for the recipes. The navigation links in the
navigation column on the left disappear once a category is chosen,
forcing the reader to use his/her back button.

ManyVeggieRecipes.com
http://www.manyveggierecipes.com/

This site is an online vegan recipe magazine. Links to recipes from
the current issue are on the left navigation column. It seems like
many more recipes are available but you would never know it unless
you used the search tool. Several of the links don't work properly.
The navigation between the recipes and the index isn't very good.
The search tool could be improved. Searching on "beans" yields
no results. The site also has Google Ad Sense at the bottom, which
needs to be adjusted as links to omnivore food sites appear there.
