Default Dracula Robber Steak

Dracula Robber Steak

There are many odd things to put down, and, lest who reads them may
fancy that I dined too well before I left Bistritz, let me put down my
dinner exactly. I dined on what they called "robber steak"--bits of
bacon, onion, and beef, seasoned with red pepper, and strung on sticks,
and roasted over the fire

Doing some research on this dish, I discovered that its a fictional one
invented by Stoker himself but not unlike something that would have been
eaten in the Austro Hungarian Empire of the time.

I have translated the recipe thusly:

Thread on either wooden or metal skewers chunks of good steak which have
been previously cut up. Take pieces of fatty bacon and cut into small
squares and also thread these along with pieces of onion cut up in
squares. This resembles a Japanese yakitori chicken kabob more than
anything.

In a baking pan place the skewered meat and marinate with a mixture of
salt and pepper, crushed garlic (to ward of the vampires very
important!), olive oil, and some hot Hungarian paprika. Marinate this as
long as you want and then grill over charcoal or broil. I would serve
this with a rice pilaf or some flat bread. Cold crisp beer feels like
the best beverage to accompany this, but Bram Stoker says that:
The wine was Golden Mediasch, which produces a queer sting on the
tongue, which is, however, not disagreeable.
