Old-Fashioned Apple Bread

Yield: 1 loaf pan (9 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 2 1/2")

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup brown sugar
1egg, beaten
2 cups peeled and diced apples, moistened with lemon juice
1/3 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup chopped raisins or dates
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cupsour milk

Cream together butter and sugar and add beaten egg, stir in fruit and
nuts. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Place
in a loaf pan; let stand for 10 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees F until
cooked, about 1 hour. Serve plain or buttered.
Cupcakes
Fill lined muffin tins 3/4 full with batter, bake at 400 degrees F
approximately 30 minutes.
Makes approximately 12 cupcakes. Combine 4 tbsp. icing sugar with 1
tbsp. applesauce, brush mixture over cupcakes.
