How about this crappy deal?

Please note that on or around July 15, 2009, AT&T will no longer be
offering access to the Usenet Netnews service. If you wish to continue
reading Usenet newsgroups, access is available through third-party vendors.

Distribution: AT&T SouthEast Newsgroups Servers

Good thing I'm dumping most of their other services in retaliation.

I can do the same, just not happy with their format, etc.

Comcast did the same thing last year "to protect the children".

Just build a free account and point your newsreader at

I provider did that a long time ago. They dropped use net and now I have
to go through a third party. Curiously, they did not reduce my monthly
bill to reflect the reduced service. I spend more time on groups than I
do on surfing or email.

I got a special a few months ago, and switched TO AT&T. DSL for $10/
month for a year. After that I'll shop around.

AT&T isn't cutting our internet bill either. Like you I spend more time
on groups I've been reading since 1992 then I do on email. I do surf a
lot though, mostly looking for stuff for DW and for recipes for dinner.

I've been on their DSL, highest speed for years, now on slowest speed
since I retired in 2007, I reckon I've been on it for more than ten
years. Started with Bellsouth, my phone provider, then AT&T bought them
out. I figured things would start going wrong when AT&T got in charge
and I wasn't wrong. The only thing better is the DSL tech service almost
improved. It only took three techs to find out what my problem was last
time.

That's me too. More time one usenet than anywhere else.

There are many free news servers. Aioe is one of them. Google is horrible.
