Default Gumbo Joes: the critique

Okay, we had the Gumbo Joes (for those who missed it, these are sloppy joes
made with Campbell's chicken gumbo soup, among other things).

They weren't awful, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make them.

As far as it goes, they were pretty bland. And really greasy. Although that
might just be the choice of ground beef used.

I suppose this would be a good recipe if someone liked bland food, and they
wanted to stretch the ground beef by adding extra ingredients. Or maybe if
they wanted to "hide" veggies in something they were feeding to kids.

Besides the gumbo soup (which is, I suppose, where the rice came from) there
were lots of pretty big chunks of carrots. There was also celery in there
(about the same amount as the carrots, allegedly, although celery wasn't
noticeable like the carrots). And there was also onion and bell pepper.

This wouldn't have been bad as a stuffing for green peppers, maybe. But if I
was doing that, I'd add more rice and skim the grease. Or skim the grease,
eliminate the rice, and add more veggies.

Actually, I'd just scrap the whole recipe and start over.

I did not see the original recipe, so I really ought not comment.
The condensed Campbell's Chicken Gumbo Soup adds a bit too much
NaCl, but, since I know what Campbell's does to soup, I expect
that.

When I use the soup just as soup, I don't notice too much fat (or any,
for that matter.)
